"Valore slate"
On 11/9/2011 a professional DaVinci certified company installed Bellaforte slate roof tiles on my residential home. The ridge cap shingles have split lengthwise down the center. There has been no traffic on the roof tiles or ridge caps. To regain roof integrity, in my opinion removal and replacement of the ridge cap shingles is needed to prevent further damage to underlayment and roof. Waiting for a response from the DaVinci rep.

"Problems are specific to the Bellaforte line"
I am a roofing salesman and I have sold/installed hundreds of thousands of square feet of DaVinci; Single-width Shake and Slate, Multi-width Shake and Slate, Staggered and straight installations, and Bellaforte Shake and Slate. The cracks at the lower right-hand corner are inherent in the Bellaforte line only. The Bellaforte are two pieces held together by a tab and that tabe is where they crack. It seems that the pressure on the tab once the right side is nailed eventually causes a crack. You'll see that DaVinci has discontinued the Bellaforte line and replaced it with Province Slate (Shake coming soon). All of their single-piece products are excellent and we have had exactly zero issues with them, and have installed thousands of squares at elevations above 10,000'.

"Extremely satisfied... those negative reviews sound suspect"
Our DaVinci slate roof was installed during construction of our home in 2006, in Texas. Gray with a mix of maroon. After 17 years we have just a touch of fading, mind you we reach triple digit summers and few freezing weeks. Hail proof. Zero cracking. Still retains the ridged flex of the original product. If they say they have problems, it was the installer's fault. After hurricane Harvey, zero damage.

"Don't waste your money"
These plastic roof shingles crack and break very easily, especially in a thaw freeze climate like New England. I pick up cracked remnants of the tiles after every wind storm as well. Save your money and go with asphalt, or if in a warm climate, use tile.

"An Amazing Product - Use Common Sense"
I built custom homes for 20+ years. I'm the author of the Roofing Ripoff expose' book. I'm the founder of AsktheBuilder. I'm writing this review because I decided to go with DaVinci after my 30-year asphalt shingle fell apart in 9 years. There's no way I'd put a crap product on my home, so I know how to look past bogus reviews to discover the truth about a product. It's now November 2012 and my Davinci single-width roof has been through six harsh New Hampshire winters and summers and looks BETTER than when I installed it. Watch the video here to see what it looks like: I've read the other reviews here and can't even comprehend how some say they have cracks and other defects. When you see how thick the shingles are and the way they're made, I can't conceive how this could happen. Plus, the reviewers post no links to photos to prove the statements. Why is that? That should be a yellow caution light to you. It's so easy to put photos up onto Google Drive and share the links. In fact, here's a photo I shot while I did the install. I installed the roof myself hand-nailing each shingle: As for the reviews about leaks, that has NOTHING to do with the shingle. Leaks are caused by defective workmanship. PERIOD. Keep in mind some negative reviews can be generated by bitter competitors. If you want the truth about DaVinci products, the absolute BEST WAY to discover how well they're holding up is to reach out to DaVinci and ask them for institutional jobs, churches, mansions, etc. where the shingles have been on for ten, or more, years. Do the legwork and CONTACT the owners of those buildings to see how well they like their DaVinci roof. Heck, come see mine! I'm easy to find. Just look up where AsktheBuilder is located. I'm happy to provide you with recent photos or videos to show you how my shingles are free of defects and how they now sport an attractive slight dusty appearance like real slate. I wouldn't hesitate to use DaVinci again and I'm planning on building my last custom home for myself and my wife. Sign up for my newsletter to see the exact shingle I choose. [Links removed]

"Tiles all crack after 5 years"
5 years into our 50 year roof more than half of the tiles have cracked at the bottom corner tab. Contacted DaVinci and they said it is fine that all the tiles are cracked, not covered under warranty. Do not buy this roof.

"Manufacturing defect being kept quiet"
DaVinci "slate" tiles look good and have plenty of hype. Five years into our roof in Nebraska and the majority of the tiles have a deep crack in the right lower corner. Suspect a manufacturing stress riser. I am up to my third contact with no quality control action taken. I am nonplussed at the lackadaisical approach to customer service and quality control.

"Poor manufacturer respone"
This is not an inexpensive product and while the roofing itself might be adequate, when I had questions concerning installation they finally sent someone to look at the issues, no one ever called to let me know the evaluation and recommendations as to a resolution

Review:
"A very inferior hyped up product I was duped on"
After reviewing several vinyl type, shake look, siding products, I decided to bust the budget And bought DaVinci shakes. I looked at the sample boards which were shipped promptly, and protected with good packaging, and fine quality brochures before I bought. I contacted DaVinci, since I have been a general contractor for many years, and told them I was ready to purchase for a large shop project of my own, then later, would be buying roofing for my home and 4 rentals. This was amounting to several large scale sales. I was told that I couldn't buy direct, and would have to purchase through one of their distributors. After spending 10 days, and waiting on 6 or 7 of their distributors to get back with me, I finally got a deal made, although at first he argued that DaVinci only sold roofing and not siding. I should have stopped then and there at his lack of knowledge, but I trusted DaVinci so I proceeded. I ordered my material based on my area footages, and depended on their distributor to fill in the quantities and coverage of bundles needed to do my job. When I started getting into the bundles that were shipped to me, many shingles had scars and scratches throughout the entire bundles. The finish on the siding is very soft, and was scratched during the packaging process, and no protection is afforded between layers. Every bundle was like this. I contacted the distributor, in which steered me to a company rep, and was told these scratches would disappear over time. Also their distributor oversold me on starters, by over double, but could make a return adjustment as they were placing orders all the time. None of this is true. My scratches are still easily seen, and $300 of oversold starters are still in my shop. I was contacted by a PR lady about doing an article in DaVinci's new brochure, and I informed her I had nothing good to say of DaVinci, their distributors, or their company rep Robert from Texas. They are all liars, and I wouldn't recommend anyone to do business with them. I am jerking all their siding shingles off this spring, and replacing them with a metal shake shingle. I am so furious at their company, and so embarrassed at letting them dupe me with false statements. No one from DaVinci answered any of my concerns.
