"Deterioration of Shingle"
Our house was built in 2006 with IKO Cambridge shingles and even though they were sold as 25 year shingles they have deteriorated to the point of requiring replacement after just 17 years. The shingles have shed most of their granules, are curling and several have blown off. Would not recommend this product!!

"Homeowner"
A 30 yr roof had to be replaced in 20 years. Put in claim in December 2016 with pictures, shingles, builder info etc Received a letter from Warranty Services Department in January 2017 asking for additional pictures, shingles etc. The roof was replaced in November 2016. Impossible to give them the additional demands for the claim submitted. Just a way to wiggle out of a claim that should have some compensation for deteriorating in 20 years.

"Katahdin Log Home with IKO Shingles"
Had architectural shingles with our log home purchased from Katahdin Log Homes. Built in 2005 and they started curling, breaking and falling off the roof. Sent in for the warranty and was offered about 1/8 of what it will cost for replace the roof. Even if I climbed up on our really scary roof and did it myself, it will not buy half of what we need (even if we use the less expensive IKO shingles). DO NOT buy these or put yourself through this. 35 year shingles.....just funny now.

"35 year warranty = 10 year shingle"
I was always a fan of Iko shingles until I shingled my house with the Chateau series shingles. They started curling and losing stones at about 7-8 years. I'm now looking at a full replacement. Regarding the 35 year warranty? They have removed all information regarding the Chateau series from their web site and have no interest in responding to questions. I have no problem with someone making a mistake, but if this is how they stand behind a product, you need to really think twice before putting any trust in them. Also, for those who might reasonably question installation, I removed all previous shingles, replaced the sheathing and ventilation because the house had been improperly vented, used the recommended underlayment, and nailed every shingle in accordance with the instructions. Installation was not a factor.

"IKO crap!"
Bought new bungalow in HMA of approx. 65 units in 2002. All were shingles of IKO Grey Slate Renaissance with 25 yr. warranty. In 2013, we discovered ALL our "Organic" IKO product were failing after 11 years! I am now suffering with a $12,000.00 replacement cost, and will NEVEER purchase an IKO product again! Warren

"Do Not Ever Buy IKO Shingles!"
I had my old roof shingles replaced 2 years ago. I thought I can rest assured that I don't need to worry about blown off shingles at least for 10 years or so. However after ONLY 2 YEARS several shingles (IKO Cambridge, with life time warranty, which is crap!) were blown off positions and the wooden board underneath was exposed. I asked my roofer to come to repair it for me. Literally almost every shingle in that area can be lifted up easily. The asphalt strip which is supposed to glue to another shingle does not do its job. That is why the shingles were blown off. I can understand in mass production, a certain percentage of productS might be defective. But if almost all of them are defective, that is A big big PROBLEM. These cheap Iko shingles are crap! Don't use them!!! You will regret!!! I don't know how these shingles on my roof will last. I wish myself good luck.

"Worried re our new roof with IKO shingles"
Had the cottage roof done a few weeks back and when I handled the spare shingles, I noticed they were tearing with little or no movement from me Maybe these were damaged by the roofer and left aside, but I also noticed that compared with unused pieces of shingle from the roof when installed in 2000, the IKO material was thinner when it is supposed to be heavier to last in high winds. The tar material for sticking to the other shingles also seemed very thin and like it will not actually work as expected. I am worried about what true quality I have here. Time and weather will tell! The shape of the shingles seems odd as well. I am going to propose another un-related idea here. The federal government should look into the roofing industry from the point of view of whether steel roofing would be better to mandate as minimum code requirement. Consider the relentless cost waste for a shingle roof over time. My roofer said because I have no air circulation under the one part of the building, the shingles will fail in 10 years. The cost for this job on a small roof was $8,000.00. No one would even provide a quote, so we were stuck with no comparable quotes and yet had to act. I think a steel roof guaranteed for 50 years would be better for Canadians rather than having to dip into our pockets every 10-25 years whatever the sad life will be for this stuff?

"Installed 2017, Major Stress Tests. Still Perfect"
I had IKO Cambridge installed in October 2017 to replace the origional 25 year old roof. They were the ones rated up to 130mph. We live on a ridgetop overlooking Reno, NV, and it can get very windy up here at times. We've had winds up to 80mph. Also, the winter temps can get quite cold and summer temps quite warm, and snow can sometimes sit on the roof. So, this roof has seen some pretty harsh conditions in 4 years. After I got my roof, the same installer did 3 other roofs on the houses near mine. The shingles were all 6 nailed. I emphasize this because I believe it is crucial for a good installation. Anyway, so far, all the roofs look perfect, and as near as I can tell, none of the 4 houses has even one lost or broken shingle. I sometimes look closely at the roofs with binoculars. When I first hired the roofer and asked him what shingles he was going to use, he told me IKO Cambridge. I decided to do some research about them and came upon this site and it's horror stories and of course became nervous. The roofer, whom I trusted having worked with other family members of his, assured me that he he had used them on numerous installations, including several in the Washoe Valley- one of the windiest places in Northern Nevada with 0 problems. So, I decided to let him use the IKO shingles. While I have no doubt that many of the horror stories on this site are true, all I can say is that I've seen no signs of any of the problems others have. So, perhaps, some of these problems arrose from not matching the right wind rating of shingles for the conditions, or nailing with 4 nails instead of 6.

"Buyer Beware"
Dont let the positive reviews fool you. They sound like recent installations and are based on the shingles appearance. We bought IKO Black Chateau shingles in 2007 which cost thousands of dollars. These specific shingles have a 35 year warranty. Now, 14 years later the shingles are deteriorating. Just falling apart! This deterioration has caused damaging leaks in our roof. I did the right thing and submitted all of the required documentation to IKO. They agreed with my assessment that the shingles are junk and want to settle with a payment to reimburse us for the paltry sum of $494.76. Thousands of dollars with a 35 year warranty, shingles deteriorated less than half life of the warranty now IKO says that their shingles are only worth $494.76? Do not buy IKO shingles! IKO agree's they are junk but they obviously do not stand behind their product. It's going to cost us thousand of dollars to replace the existing shingles with costs for product and labor not to mention the costly repairs for the water damage to our roof. Shameful.

"Absolute Junk Do Not Buy"
Worst product we ever bought for our house. we built our house 9 years ago and have had nothing but problems with our iko shingles, just like most people that have written these reviews. unfortunately missed out on the class action lawsuit a few years ago. every year we lose some shingles on a moderately windy day. we don't get close to hurricane winds here. the shingles don't come off on edges but right out of the center of the roof on all sides. when i looked at them, the tar line was very chinsy and had hardened without melting to the lower shingle. the roof was done at the beginning of august and it was over 30 degrees celcius out. i contacted iko and they said it wasn't a problem with the shingle without even looking at them. they then said to mail 2 shingles to them. i live in b.c. and they have offices in b.c. and alberta but no, you have to pay to mail them to ontario. they said they were high nailed by our roofer who has been roofing for 40 years. funny this same roofer did our neighbors house a month before ours with a different brand of shingles and they've had zero issues. Only buy these shingles if you want a headache for you and your roofer and then you have to deal with a arrogant manager at iko's head office. i will never buy IKO shingles again and i suggest no one else does. read all the lousy reviews, they way outnumber the good ones..
